Postdoctoral Fellow (M/F) for the dark field microscopy beamline ID06-HXRM

Updated: about 2 months ago
Location: Grenoble, RHONE ALPES
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 05 Nov 2020

The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.

Supported by 22 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

You will play a major role in the operation and further development of the ID06 beamline as well as in the activities of the group.

The beamline’s mission is dark field X-ray microscopy, a newly developed technique that uses hard X-rays for full-field imaging of phase, orientation and strain of crystalline volumes embedded with polycrystalline samples.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, your mission is the following:

  • Develop your own research programme exploiting ID06’s unique technical possibilities in close collaboration with the beamline team
  • Support users through the role of local contact, thus gaining opportunities for collaborative work at the frontiers of the field
  • Contribute to the continuous technical upgrade and development of the instrument together with the Beamline Scientists and Post-Docs, so as to meet the high expectations of the user community
