Postdoc in integrative biology of human-mosquito-arbovirus interactions

Updated: about 2 years ago
Deadline: ;

A postdoctoral position is available at Institut Pasteur in Paris to study the effects of human blood factors on arbovirus acquisition by mosquitoes. The project relies on a tripartite collaboration between the Lambrechts lab (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/insect-virus-interactions/ ), the Gendrin lab (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/microbiota-of-insect-vectors/ ) and the Sakuntabhai lab (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/functional-genetics-of-infectious-diseases/ ).

Arbovirus acquisition by mosquitoes during blood feeding largely depends on human viremia but it is also influenced by blood metabolites. Characterizing the mode of action of these modulating host factors is essential to the development of new strategies to reduce arbovirus transmission. This project will investigate the effect of human blood metabolites on arbovirus acquisition by mosquitoes through the combination of “omics” approaches (metagenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics) and functional follow-up experiments to characterize the underlying mechanisms.

Applicants must hold (or be about to obtain) a PhD in a relevant field. Prior experience with the design, execution and analysis of transcriptomics, metagenomics and/or metabolomics experiments is required. Technical proficiency in molecular biology, virology, insect manipulation and/or work in sterile conditions would be a significant advantage. High motivation, excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively are essential.

The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. The expected start date (negotiable) is early 2022. The position is initially for 18 months at Institut Pasteur in Paris, with a foreseen extension for another 18 months at Institut Pasteur de la Guyane in Cayenne, French Guiana. Salary will be commensurate with experience according to the institutional guidelines.

To apply, please send in a single PDF file: (1) a cover letter outlining your previous experiences that make you suited for this position as well as your research, training and career goals, (2) your CV, and (3) contact information for 3 references via email to [email protected] .
