Offer Description

Context

This offer is part of the research project "Social, Economic and Mathematical Approach to Autonomy in Aging" (Models_of_Autonomy) aimed at considering innovative, sustainable approaches to healthy aging. Indeed, the ageing of populations is accompanied by an increase in the share of the elderly and a decrease in that of the active, It is clear that this has a strong impact on the French redistributive system where the assets finance their retired counterparts. The main objective of this project is therefore to identify the determinants and prevention policy choices that would improve the autonomy of older people, with an approach that explicitly takes into account socio-economic heterogeneity, behavioural and health in the population.

Funded by the call for projects «Autonomy: aging and disability situations (2nd wave)» launched under the France 2030 plan by the National Research Agency (ANR), this interdisciplinary program involves epidemiologists, statisticians, economists, mathematicians and computer science experts from Université Paris Cité and ENS Paris Saclay. It is coordinated by Mrs Archana SINGH-MANOUX (Research Director, Centre de Recherche en Epidémiologie et StatistiqueS, CRESS UMR 1153, EpiAgeing team), as scientific coordinator, and by the Paris Public Health Institute (PPH), interdisciplinary and transfacultaire institute of Paris Cité University.

The work associated with the research project is divided between three scientific teams, each with considerable expertise in their respective fields to develop disability prevention programs.  The first team consists of researchers from the EpiAgeing team (https://cress-umr1153.fr/en/teams/epiageing/ ) and the I3SP team (https://i3sp.u-paris.fr/ ). This team will focus on the determinants of disability in aging and the health transitions to death observed from a whole-life approach. The second team led by LIRAES researchers (https://liraes.u-paris.fr/ ) will conduct research to develop the use of a tool to measure well-being in economic assessments, ICECAP (Investigating Choice Experiments Capability) from a national survey on French preferences for the different dimensions of the questionnaire. The third and final team is under the responsibility of the Borelli Centre (https://centreborelli.ens-paris-saclay.fr/fr ) which will work on modelling aging.

Job Summary

This 48-month postdoctoral project aims to develop knowledge of the factors contributing to health changes observed during aging and leading to disability and death, within a conceptual framework of a «whole life» approach. The objective is to estimate the contribution of several factors, which may be the subject of public health interventions, in these health transitions by integrating the concepts of a broad set of aging indicators such as fragility and multimorbidity.

The postdoctoral researcher will have the following missions:

  •      Examine the place of heterogeneous risk factors (social, behavioural, biological, contextual) in health transitions until disability or death to identify targets for potential interventions in the causal chain and clarify their temporality in the aging process.
  •     Determine the role of frailty and multimorbidity in health transitions to disability or death.
  •     Identify factors contributing to the heterogeneity of healthy aging that can be targeted by public policies, including accessibility to the health system throughout the health transitions observed during aging.
  •

    Presentation of the management

The position is attached to the Inserm U1153 unit, EpiAgeing team, co-directed by Archana Singh-Manoux and Séverine Sabia. The EpiAgeing team is an academic research unit, Inserm, of the laboratory CRESS (Research Center in Epidemiology and Statistics)

The EpiAgeing team includes several researchers, clinicians, PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, and statisticians. The team studies the theme of aging from large databases and cohorts by developing mainly epidemiological approaches. The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the research axis of the EpiAgeing team targeting health transitions linking disability, multi-morbidity and fragility during aging, with a life course approach.
