Offer Description
The goal of the DECID shared lab is to synergize the expertise of LYNRED's R&D engineers with that of CROMA's device physicists to enhance the electrical characterization methods of infrared photodetectors. A particular emphasis has already been placed on leveraging Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy technics. In addition to this approach, CROMA has conducted various investigations involving the measurement of low-frequency noise on optoelectronic diodes, albeit exclusively on photovoltaic cells thus far. These studies have already yielded significant insights, demonstrating that low-frequency noise, though less commonly employed in diode characterization, holds substantial potential for comprehending the intrinsic physics of photodetectors. Furthermore, it proves valuable in finely identifying the presence of defects within these devices.
In this context, a post-doctoral position is available at CROMA, dedicated to the research activities of DECID and funded by the IPCEI Nano 2026 project named DECIDED
The envisioned work will focus on the low-frequency noise electrical characterization of HgCdTe infrared photodetectors manufactured by LYNRED. Given the low-temperature operation of these devices, the research will place significant emphasis on the instrumental aspects of noise measurement, utilizing various cryogenic probe stations. Initially, the aim is to identify the most suitable setup for conducting experiments. Following this initial phase, a comprehensive investigation of low-frequency noise will be undertaken. Extracting the noise power spectral density as a function of frequency, current, and temperature will provide crucial insights into the operation and origins of fluctuations in the device. The ultimate objective of this work is to establish a new characterization method that can be seamlessly transferred to the industrial context of LYNRED. This research will therefore benefit from both academic and industrial environments.
CROMA (formerly known as IMEP-LaHC), based in Grenoble, is a prestigious French laboratory specializing in electronic, optical, and RF devices. Throughout its history, the CMNE team at CROMA has cultivated robust expertise and a distinguished reputation in the electrical characterization and modelling of semiconductor devices. The team has made significant contributions to the advancement of MOS transistor characterization. In recent times, the CMNE team has expanded its focus, directing a portion of its activities towards optoelectronic semiconductor devices, with a particular emphasis on photodetectors operating in the infrared spectrum. This shift is reflected in the collaborative efforts of the CMNE team within the DECID lab, a shared initiative established in partnership with LYNRED, a leading European manufacturer of infrared imagers, and CROMA.
