Offer Description

The candidate will develop and analyse evolutionary epidemiology models to understand the evolution of communication between bacteriophages. In particular, the aim of this project is to gain a better understanding of the influence of spatial structure on the evolution of communication and signal diversification. Different theoretical approaches will be used: (1) adaptive dynamics, (2) spatial model simulations.

- development and analysis of epidemiological models
- derivation of selection gradients in (i) constant, (ii) time-varying and/or (iii) spatially structured environments
- development of an individual-centred simulation model for monitoring the epidemiology and evolution of bacteriophages

The candidate will work in the "Ecologie et Epidémiologie Evolutive" team at the CEFE (Centre d'Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive) in Montpellier under the supervision of Sylvain Gandon. This project is part of a long-term collaboration with Edze Westra from the University of Exeter in England. Missions to England are planned in order to compare the theoretical predictions from the models developed with the experiments that will be carried out by the English collaborator.
