Offer Description

The project LACRIDO “Laser Activated Chemistry of Reactive Intermediates: Direct Observation in the jet”, is funded by the European Research Council (ERC-St). The project focuses on the development of a chirped-pulse microwave spectrometer coupled with a tunable UV-laser to trigger chemical reactions towards the goal of capturing and determining the three-dimensional structures of reactive intermediates in the molecular jet which mark the reaction mechanism.

LACRIDO’s main proposal integrates cutting-edge research combining the knowledge of two spectroscopic methods in the UV and microwave range with quantum chemical calculations. Key efforts will be put on an investigation of two reactions. The first one is Diels-Alder, one of the most classic and important reactions in chemistry. The second one targets the atmospherically important reaction of isoprene with hydroxyl (OH) radical.

The post-doctorate scholar will also participate in the education of junior research staff, providing advice and support in microwave spectroscopy, and in solving problems and troubleshooting during the realization of the project tasks.

The project is to be carried out at the Laboratoire Interunivesitaire des Systèmes Atmosphériques (LISA), University Paris-Est Créteil in Créteil, France. This laboratory is a mixed research center belonging to University Paris-Est Créteil, Université Paris Cité and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and it was created to address the new challenges in astrophysic and atmospheric chemistry. The laboratory possesses excellent working conditions and is equipped with a large platform dedicated to spectroscopic research and access to a large variety of cutting-edge facilities and technological platforms.

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a good level of experience in spectral analysis in the microwave range, specialized on the analysis of molecules featuring a methyl internal rotation coupled with either a nuclear quadrupole or with an electron spin (in radical). The candidate will mainly contribute to the simulation of microwave spectra of such molecules including theoretical and code development.

The candidate is expected to have interest in multidisciplinary work, and the capacity to work in an international environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
