Offer Description

Introduction:

The Sergent Consciousness Lab is looking for a Post-Doctoral fellow to work on the neural mechanisms of conscious processing in humans, within the CONSCIOUSBRAIN project, funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant to Principal Investigator Claire Sergent.

The Sergent Consciousness Lab is part of the Integrative Neuroscience and Cognition Center, affiliated to the CNRS (the major research organization France) and the Université Paris Cité, one of the most prestigious scientific universities in France. Our lab is located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, at the heart of Paris.

The main objectives of the CONSCIOUSBRAIN project are:

  • Designing new experimental approaches to distinguish conscious access both from sensory and executive processes.
  • Applying these tools to assess consciousness in post-coma muted patients.
  • Improving computational models of conscious access by updating the global workspace model to include a new concept: the “global playground”

Job description:

The post-doctoral fellow will be in charge of one part of the CONSCIOUSBRAIN project, addressing the neural mechanisms of conscious perception (vision and/or audition) and their relations with attention, decision making, and the state of consciousness (sleep and anesthesia) in healthy human volunteers. The techniques used will be experimental psychology and human neuroimaging (fMRI, magneto-encephalography, electroencephalography, and / or human intracranial recordings).

In collaboration with the PI, and with some help from other members of the team, the post-doctoral fellow will design experimental protocols, pilot them, acquire and analyse data, present results in conferences and write the related scientific articles.

Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who have experience in cognitive neuroscience and cognitive psychology research and have expertise in at least one of the following techniques: fMRI, magnetoencephalography and / or electroencephalography in humans. They should also have solid programming skills and solid skills in data analysis with either Matlab, Python and / or R. They should also be able to demonstrate solid skills in scientific writing.
