Post-doc in homogeneous catalysis and synthetic methodologies H/F

Subject

Photocatalytic deoxygenation of sulfoxides

Contract duration (months)

Job description

The deoxygenation of N–O and S–O bonds is a chemical challenge and is key to providing interconversion pathways between various oxidation states of N and S-containing compounds. These processes are necessary to close the nitrogen and sulfur cycles that are open due to human activities. Deoxygenation of N–O and S–O bonds currently rely on thermochemical methods and sacrificial reducing agents. The ANR-funded DeNOSOr project aims at developing transition metal-based molecular catalysts for the selective and efficient photo- and electro-catalytic deoxygenation of N–O and S–O bonds through mechanistic investigations.

In the frame of this collaborative project, the post-doctoral researcher will develop the photodeoxygenation first of sulfoxides and then of the more challenging sulfones. The project will build on preliminary results and on the expertise of the laboratory in the photodeoxygenation of N–O bonds (Chem. Sci., 2021, 12, 10266-10272). The experimental optimization will be combined with mechanistic investigations by NMR spectroscopy and in collaboration with physical chemists (Institut Joliot, CEA) to get insight into the relevant mechanistic steps.
