Offer Description

This contract is part of a research and development project, coordinated by Emmanuel Fureix, on the history of political objects in the age of revolutions (late eighteenth - late nineteenth century). The aim is to understand the place and role of objects - and material culture - in the processes of popular politicisation over a long nineteenth century, on an Atlantic scale (Europe and the Americas): objects with political decoration (snuffboxes, historiated plates, pipes with figures, printed scarves, signs, etc.); objects with a political function (ballot box, flag, secular relic, etc.).

The core of the project will be the creation of a visual mediation website on political objects in the century of revolutions. The site is currently under construction (architecture already fixed, content being ordered).

The post-doctoral fellow will also help to organise thematic workshops, as well as dialogue with the network of researchers and museums (in France and abroad) involved in the project.

The post-doctoral researcher should have a good command of digital humanities, and in particular of the Omeka S software. A good knowledge of the cultural and/or political history of the 19th century is desirable. An interest in the promotion of research and a good command of English are required.

The research project is attached to the CRHEC (Centre de recherche en histoire européenne comparée, UR 4392), a team that brings together historians from the Université Paris-Est Créteil, around five thematic axes, two of which are primarily concerned here: Visual, material and sound history / Construction of politics (https://crhec.u-pec.fr ).

 

Ce contrat s’inscrit dans un projet de recherche et de valorisation, coordonné par Emmanuel Fureix, sur l’histoire des objets politiques à l’âge des révolutions (fin XVIIIe – fin XIXe siècle).Il s’agit de saisir la place et le rôle des objets – et de la culture matérielle – dans les processus de politisation populaire sur un long XIXe siècle, à une échelle atlantique (Europe-Amériques) :  objets à décor politique (tabatières, assiettes historiées, pipes à figures, foulards imprimés, enseignes, etc.) ; objets à fonction politique (urne électorale, drapeau, relique profane, etc.)

Le coeur de la mission portera sur la réalisation d‘un site internet de médiation visuelle autour des objets politiques au siècle des révolutions. Le site est actuellement en cours de construction (architecture déjà fixée, commande de contenus en cours)

La personne recrutée contribuera aussi à l’organisation de workshops thématiques, ainsi qu’au dialogue avec le réseau de chercheurs et de musées (en France et à l’étranger) engagés dans le projet

Le ou la post-doctorant.e devra avoir une bonne maîtrise des humanités numériques, et notamment du logiciel Omeka S. Une bonne connaissance de l’histoire culturelle et/ou politique du XIXe siècle est souhaita   ble. Un intérêt pour la valorisation de la recherche et une bonne maîtrise de l’anglais sont nécessaires.
