As a member of Institut Mines-Télécom, Mines Saint-Étienne carries out missions of education, training, research, innovation, industrial transfer, and scientific culture. With 2,500 students, 500 staff members, and a budget of €50 million, it operates on three campuses dedicated to i) the industries of the future, ii) health and well-being, and iii) sovereignty in digital technology and microelectronics industries. It is ranked in the top 15 of French graduates schools of engineering and in the Top 500 of world universities.

The 2023-2027 strategy of Mines Saint-Étienne contributes to that of Institut Mines-Telecom. Its ambitions are:

  • To support and accompany ecological, digital, and generational transitions and train the actors involved in these transitions,
  • To foster national and European sovereignty in microelectronics and digital technologies.

To support this strategy, Mines Saint-Étienne is recruiting a junior faculty member in Operations Research.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position available is for a Maitre de Conférences (permanent junior Faculty member) in Operations Research, assigned to the Centre Microélectronique de Provence.

The Centre Microélectronique de Provence, located in Gardanne (13) on the Aix-Marseille-Provence campus of Mines Saint-Etienne, is one of the five research and training centers of Mines Saint-Etienne. It comprises four departments and two platforms, including the Manufacturing Sciences and Logistics department, where teaching will take place. The department has a staff of around 30, including 8 professors, and some 20 research engineers, post-docs and PhD students, all active in the axis Outils Décisionnels pour la Production et les Services (ODPS) of the Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Modélisation et d'Optimisation des Systèmes (LIMOS).

The recruited person will align his/her research project with that of the Research Unit ODPS at LIMOS. LIMOS is a Joint Research Unit (UMR 6158) in computer science, and more generally in Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies (ICST). The scientific positioning of LIMOS is centered on Computer Science, Modeling and Optimization of Organizational and Living Systems. The activities of the ODPS axis concern Operations Management, which consists in making the best possible use of certain resources to carry out given activities, within the framework of complex organizational systems.

Rationale for recruitment:

For teaching, the person recruited will mainly be involved in the ISMIN (Ingénieur Systèmes Microélectroniques et Informatiques) engineering cycle and in the SEE (Systèmes Electroniques Embarqués) specialized engineering diploma. In the medium term, he/she will also be asked to participate in the development of continuing education modules. The subjects taught will be computer science in the broadest sense, with a particular focus on programming (object-oriented programming, system programming, algorithms, etc.). Teaching may also be required in operations research, data science and industrial engineering.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the areas covered by the LIMOS ODPS axis, with a possible focus on Industry 4.0, particularly in microelectronics manufacturing, and/or on transport and mobility. As far as possible, research topics should be aligned with sustainable development issues. The methodologies used to address these issues in the ODPS axis are those of operations research in the broadest sense. Expertise in one or more of the following techniques would be particularly appreciated: stochastic optimization, robust optimization, data-driven optimization, multicriteria optimization.

The position is based on the campus of Aix-Marseille-Provence. Participation to activities operated by the other campuses of Mines Saint-Etienne and international collaborations are encouraged.
