Offer Description

Nowadays, in the area of electric mobility, understanding the reaction mechanisms governing the aging of Li-ion batteries is crucial. In this context, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop 3D imaging techniques to study the working processes of all-solid-state batteries, in particular to determine the structure - microstructure - electrochemical properties relationships. Indeed, the viability of all-solid batteries lies in solid/solid interfaces requiring that the electrodes and the electrolyte be densified in order to minimize the porosity which blocks ionic and electronic transport. Imaging techniques such as X-ray tomography, FIB-SEM, etc. are techniques that can provide key information on the microstructure of electrodes and electrolytes, improving the understanding of all-solid-state batteries. The goal is therefore to develop specific set-ups to monitor the densification of materials in operando mode (during densification).

- Developing new electrochemical set up to investigate the morphology by 3D image technique of solid state batteries
- Image rétament and segmentation to understand the microstructure evolution of solid state batteries during cycling

This postdoctoral project is part of the PEPR battery “OpenStorm” project managed by the ANR under France 2030. This very ambitious project aims to develop new methods to better understand how batteries work. This project involves 10 CNRS UMRs and CEA-LITEN. The consortium thus formed will allow rich and important scientific exchanges to remove scientific obstacles. This project will be carried out in collaboration with all the partners of the OpenStorm project.
The candidate must hold a thesis in materials science, chemistry or physics with extensive experience in 3D image processing (segmentation, etc.). Knowledge of electrochemistry and knowledge of batteries would be an asset.
