Offer Description

Description of scientific context and post-doctoral subject: The Gendhi project aims to understand how social relations and dominations are articulated to account for social inequalities in health, from early childhood to adulthood. The research is structured around two complementary questions: (i) How are (un)healthy bodies socially constructed? (ii) Do people's use of healthcare and the way they are cared for by the healthcare system differ according to their social characteristics? The approach is resolutely multidisciplinary, combining sociology, demography, economics and epidemiology, in close collaboration with clinician-researchers. The project is led by Nathalie Bajos, sociologist-demographer, Director of Research at INSERM, Muriel Darmon, sociologist, Director of Research at CNRS, Pierre-Yves Geoffard, Director of Research at the Paris School of Economics, and Michelle Kelly-Irving, epidemiologist, Research Fellow at INSERM.

The aim of this post-doctorate is to examine age-related cognitive declines and their medical or hospital management, within or outside the framework of Alzheimer-type dementia. Particular emphasis will be placed on social inequalities in aging, age relations and lifecourse dimensions. Research will be primarily qualitative (using observations and interviews), or mixed (qualitative and quantitative). But in any case, it will have to interact with the quantitative research carried out within the Gendhi project on the elderly and ageing. In disciplinary terms, this sociological research must also be able to interact with the other disciplines involved in the project.

- Participation in the scientific life of the Gendhi project.
- Collecting qualitative data through interviews and observations, transcribing interviews, keeping a field diary for observations (an observation report, separate from the field diary, and the transcribed interviews will be added to the collectively collected Gendhi materials.
- Writing scientific articles
- Presentation of work and participation in Gendhi working groups and seminars.
This list is neither exhaustive nor restrictive.
- 20% of working time may be devoted to the valorization of previous work, particularly thesis work.

The recruitment is associated with the Gender and Health Inequalities (Gendhi) research project. This project has obtained funding from the European Research Council, via the "ERC-Synergy-2019" call, over a 7-year period.
The person recruited will become a post-doctoral fellow in the CESSP laboratory (UMR 8209 / CNRS, EHESS, Paris 1) and will be housed in the Gendhi project premises on the Condorcet campus.
