BRGM, the French geological survey (www.brgm.fr ), is France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications for the management of surface and subsurface resources with a view to sustainable development. Under partnerships with numerous public and private stakeholders, BRGM focuses on scientific research, expertise and innovation. Its activity meets 4 objectives:

• understanding geological phenomena and related risks,

• developing new techniques and methodologies,

• producing and distributing data for surface, subsurface and resource management,

• providing the tools required to manage the surface, subsurface and resources, prevent risks and pollution, and manage policies in response to climate change.

As part of your duties, you will be mainly responsible for:

• Participating in the maintenance and development of thermodynamic databases developed within the lab or in partnership with academic and/or industrial partners.

• Carrying out geochemical modelling to support experiments, to understand the phenomena involved or for predictive purposes.

• Developing innovative approaches in technological/conceptual breakthrough in link with the team's multidisciplinary projects.

• Developing and maintaining your national/international network of partners to initiate research projects (regional, national and European) and support of public policies in relation to the laboratory activities and actively contribute to their implementation

• Promoting the results in the form of scientific publications, patents, participation in conferences (national and/or international) and reports.

For this job position you will integrate the Water, Environment, Process Development and Analysis Division (DEPA), which develops and provides solutions to societal challenges in the area of water resource management and the environmental impact of human activities on the geosphere. This position will contribute to the main mission of the laboratory of the DEPA/MG2 Unit (Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Geosystems modelling), within the framework of its R&D missions, support to public policies and commercial activities in France and internationally.

The main topics tackled within this laboratory concern :

- (i) the characterization of natural and manufactured solids (e.g. ores, wastes, natural or engineered barriers, geological reservoirs) as well as their reactivity in Earth and environmental sciences,

- (ii) the integration of water/solid/gas interactions in a experimentation/modelling continuum in order to respond to the socio-economic and environmental challenges of the energy transition (e.g. nuclear waste disposal, CO2 storage, geothermal energy)

- (iii) the development of analytical techniques, coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical experiments, and calculation codes to meet the R&D needs of public and private players,

- (iv) the development and implementation of techniques for the preparation and physico-chemical analysis (including crystallographic analysis) of soil, sediment, rock or ore bodies.
