Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Digital Services for Geosciences Department (DNG) is responsible for designing and implementing the digital services provided by BRGM. It is also one of the leaders in environmental information systems in France, Europe and internationally.
You will join the Data Processing and Artificial Intelligence unit (DNG/TIA), in charge of innovative data processing of geoscientific information (data processing, AI, modeling, prediction, etc.). This position will enable you to collaborate with other DNG data managers, as well as the thematicians and project managers in charge of scientific data production (geology, geophysics, hydrology, mineral resources, etc.).
Job description
You will be ask to :
- Manage and lead European and international research and development projects (Horizon Europe in particular) for BRGM and ensure coordination with other European members/partners;
- Support the manager of the Data, Services and Digital Infrastructures scientific program in identifying projects with added value for BRGM, putting together and validating bids;
- Negotiate with our European counterparts to define and implement the technical, application and data architectures associated with these projects (breakdown into sub-systems; description of the main information flows; identification of software solutions; scientific data management; etc.);
- Structure and monitor implementation phases (both internal and external), ;
- Check the conformity of deliverables and take part in various reporting bodies.

We are looking for a post-graduate (Bac+5) with a degree in Computer Science or Earth Sciences with at least 5 years experience in managing European or international research projects and in managing and promoting scientific and technical information.
BRGM's Digital Services for Geosciences Department is looking for an experienced IS project manager to work more specifically on projects to set up information systems dedicated to the geosciences on a European scale. Examples are the FUTURAM project https://futuram.eu/ in the field of the circular economy of mineral resources, or RED ROSES https://www.croix-rouge.fr/reduction-des-risques-de-catastrophes/projet… in the field of natural hazards.
You will have the following skills and qualities :
- Perfect command of project management and leadership of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams in a European and international research and/or project production context.
- Good knowledge of the workings of European bodies;
- Good knowledge of scientific data management IT architectures (technical, application, data) with an interest for information system urbanization;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Fluency in written and spoken English essential;
- Thoroughness, and analytical skills;
- Interest in Earth Sciences ;
- Knowledge of data standardization mechanisms would be a plus.
