Section CNU : 61 / 63
Assignment : Electronics and Telecommunications Department and IETR laboratory, SIGNAL team.
Type of contract : CDI (permanent contract)
Quota: full-time (192 HETD teaching and half-time RIS3 project)
Start date: between September 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024
Remuneration: depending on experience, in line with the salary scale for senior lecturers
Job environment:
INSA Rennes is the largest public engineering school in Brittany. It welcomes 2040 students and apprentices. More than 340 engineers, 60 masters students and 40 PhDs graduate each year. With 9 teaching departments, including 7 engineering specialities and 1 apprenticeship, and 6 research laboratories, INSA employs around 540 public-sector staff (teacher-researchers, lecturers, administrative support staff) and more than 70 part-time employees from companies.
Communications networks and digital infrastructures are the backbone of the digital transformation of our industry and society. As the medium for transmitting and processing information, digital infrastructures are present in all areas of industrial applications, from autonomous cars and intelligent cities to the entertainment sector, health, space, defence and energy management. In this respect, the telecommunications sector is a key area of national and European sovereignty.
However, the digital infrastructure sector faces a number of challenges:
The Intelligent, Secure, Sovereign and Sustainable Networks (RIS3) project aims to maintain a very high level of expertise in the design of the networks of the future and disruptive communications techniques in order to maintain significant know-how in France in this key sector. In this context, the CMA RIS3 project, led by INSA Rennes and bringing together a consortium of 7 courses from the University of Rennes 1 and CentraleSupelec, has set itself 6 actions:
1: Create a university research school to give greater visibility and structure to the range of courses on offer in telecommunications and digital infrastructures, and to train experts in the design of the networks of the future.
2, 3 and 4: Train students from Bac+3 to Bac+5 and apprentices in intelligent, secure, sovereign and sustainable networks, particularly in dual expertise (security, AI, data) and in the impact of digital infrastructures on sustainable development, particularly with regard to the life cycle of network elements.
5: Train professionals in the development of new skills specific to 5G, encompassing issues of sustainability and security.
6: Strengthen the attractiveness of the sector by setting up actions aimed at high school students, attracting talent and highlighting examples of female careers.
Within INSA, the implementation of the RIS3 project in terms of training will focus on setting up a university research school and offering continuing education and apprenticeships.
Teaching
The person recruited will mainly be involved in the E&T department, but also in apprenticeship training in Electronics - Embedded Systems and Telecommunications (E-SET). He or she will be involved in RIS3 project missions, including setting up training courses in the RIS3 university research school, as well as in RIS3 continuing education courses to be created. He or she will also be involved in monitoring E-SET apprentices, liaising with INSA's partner companies. Teaching will include lectures, practical work (TP) and tutorials (TD), as well as digital content to be created on electromagnetic waves, antennas and other microwave devices. In addition, new courses will be offered on the introduction to sustainable radio frequency electronics and the role of microwave technologies in the strategy of sustainability and sovereignty.
Research
Host laboratory: Institut d'Electronique et des Technologies du NuméRique (IETR - UMR 6164) - https://www.ietr.fr .
Host team: SurfWave (periodic and quasi-periodic Surfaces for Wave control)
IETR is a public research laboratory specializing in electronics and digital technologies. Structured into 13 thematic research teams, its work addresses a wide range of scientific challenges, mainly linked to the digital transformation of society, but also to its transitions in terms of the environment, ecology, energy and health.
The SurfWave team works on the design, synthesis, optimization and validation of periodic or quasi-periodic surfaces aimed at controlling the reflection and/or transmission of electromagnetic waves, as well as radiating systems based on leaky, static or reconfigurable, printed or three-dimensional antennas, for a variety of applications such as reflector and transmitter arrays, SER (Radar Equivalent Surface) control, WAIMs, FSSs, polarizers and multi-beam or swept systems.
Each year, the position includes a half-time research assignment dedicated to the RIS3 project. In the first year, a teaching release will be granted, reducing the service to 48 HETD per year, in order to work as effectively as possible on RIS3 research and on setting up RIS3 training courses.
Research profile
The candidate (teacher-researcher) will play a central role in developing the skills of IETR's SurfWave team in radiofrequency technologies, in line with the objectives of the RIS3 project.
He/she will have a profile focused on radio frequency technologies, electromagnetic waves, antennas and other microwave devices, including one or more activities in the fields of sustainability and/or safety. Demonstration of successful experience in at least one of these areas, and the relevance of the project to the issues addressed in RIS3, will be decisive factors in the assessment of the application.
In this recruitment campaigne, the SurfWave team is interested in multifunctional microwave antennas and surfaces, autonomous communicating devices (capable of recovering the RF energy they need from their environment), bio-based RF technologies, as well as antennas and surfaces for energy optimization, RF system durability or security (including stealth, for example). In his or her application, the person recruited will propose a research project on one or more of these themes, and will assume a leadership role in these activities.
Administrative tasks
The person recruited will be involved in the RIS3 project, as well as in further training and apprenticeships linked to the project. In particular, he/she will be involved in recruiting candidates for training courses, and in promoting the project. The assumption of administrative and pedagogical responsibilities will be gradual, in consultation with the RIS3 project leader.
