Context & Job description
As part of the Detector & Electronics Group in the Instrumentation Services and Development Division, the Electronics Unit provides development and support capabilities in the fields of electronics required in instrumentation control for the experimental stations and the accelerator, fast digital electronics and data acquisition systems for detectors and sensors, and high-precision analogue solutions. Within the Electronics Unit, the Control Electronics Engineer will work on topics related to the design, implementation, and optimization of control systems as well as the development of advanced electronics solutions for data acquisition and signal processing in collaboration with other staff members.
As a Control Electronics Engineer, you will work under the responsibility and in close collaboration with the Head of the Electronics Unit by identifying opportunities for technical and process improvement, and contributing actively in multidisciplinary projects.
Your missions will be:
- Provide ESRF experimental stations and accelerator complex with optimised support in development, improvement and maintenance of electronic instrumentation.
- Establish a sound structure for efficient development and integration of innovative control instrumentation.
- Advise the Head of the Unit on your area of competence.
You will be in charge of the following tasks:
- Specify, develop, select, purchase, characterise, evaluate, install, commission and maintain electronic modules, instrumentation and systems required for the ESRF experimental stations and accelerator complex.
- Manage projects for the experimental stations and the accelerator involving the selection, installation and/or development of specific control hardware and electronics.
- Be a contact person for support in control electronics.
- Investigate and promote new system architectures and platforms, keeping track of the latest technological developments of interest for the ESRF for instrumentation control.
Expected profile
- Higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma offering 300 ECTS) in electronics, physics, instrumentation or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as electronics engineer dealing with control instrumentation related matters.
- Sound knowledge and experience in one or more of the following fields: analog and digital electronics design, scientific instrumentation, motion control, and control systems.
- Familiarity with technical projects and operations management.
- Good IT skills
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage time and to prioritise and plan work effectively.
- Committed to deliver the best possible service.
Working conditions
Permanent contract.
The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
