The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS) is looking for a lecturer to join the Automation and Mechanical Engineering unit (ATME). Tampere University has a long tradition in manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs have been provided for a long time already and are constantly improved and adapted to the industry needs. In mechanical engineering, the focus areas in research and education are intelligent systems, digital design, and manufacturing.

We are now seeking a University Lecturer in Manufacturing Engineering.

Job description 

The position is teaching-oriented and your subject area focuses on digital manufacturing, additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies, design optimization applied to manufacturing, product development, reverse engineering, measurement, and metrology.

Your duties will include both the BSc and MSc levels in mechanical engineering. This includes independent teaching, group supervision, supervision of theses, collaborative curriculum and program planning and development, as well as research activities, co-supervision of doctoral students, and activities related to obtaining project funding.

Requirements

You are expected to hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field. The position requires good teaching skills, formal pedagogical training is considered a benefit. You will be evaluated based on the competence in the field, the pedagogical training and the teaching skills. Your ability to produce teaching materials, use different teaching methods, and the ability to provide teaching in different domains of manufacturing and engineering design will be considered, too. Your research portfolio will also be carefully examined and your suitability to be included for active research participation within ATME unit will be evaluated.

Your experience in education development, knowledge of the Finnish higher education system, and experience in research are valued. You are expected to be proactive and eager to participate in the ENS faculty and ATME unit activities. A good level of English is required and proficiency in Finnish is considered an advantage.

The anticipated start date for this permanent, full-time position is in September 2021 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

Salaries at Tampere University are based on the Finnish University Salary System for teaching and research staff. The preliminary job demands level for a university lecturer is 6-7. In addition, employees receive performance-based pay.
