We are now looking for

University Lecturer

in population genomics and bioinformatics to join the Ecology and Genetics Research Unit at the University of Oulu.

Job description

We expect you to have a research and teaching background in population genomics and good skills in bioinformatics. You will act as the Director of the Master’s Programme in Computational Biology and Data Analysis. You will be responsible for planning, implementation and quality assurance of the above-mentioned program. You will also be responsible for curriculum planning in the Master’s Programme, practical organizing and development of teaching, and applying funding for teaching and curriculum development. You should also advance academic education and display pedagogical leadership. The teaching duties include basic level and advanced courses given in Finnish and English. In addition to conducting research in his/her own project, the candidate is expected to contribute to thesis supervision at all levels (BSc, MSc and PhD).

Qualifications
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Finnish, as well as strong communication and teamwork skills are required. Assessment of the applicants’ qualifications will be based on the following criteria: teaching experience, pedagogical skills, thesis supervision, scientific publications, activity in the scientific community, national and international mobility, and other international activities. The applicant’s research should complement the ongoing research environment within the Ecology and Genetics Research Unit, and build synergies within the Unit and with different research groups at the University of Oulu. The applicant is expected to hold a doctoral degree and have demonstrable qualifications in teaching and research, as indicated in the CV, teaching statement, publication list, and research plan attached to the application.

Terms of employment

The position is permanent starting from 1st of September 2022. A trial period of 6 months will be applied. The salary will be based on the job demand level 6 -7 of the salary system for teaching and research staff in use in Finnish universities. In addition, based on personal work performance, up to 50 % of the job demands level can be paid. In practice the salary is approximately 4000–5200 euros per month (before taxes).
