University Lecturer in food chemistry

The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN FOOD CHEMISTRY from 1.1.2025 onwards or as agreed. The permanent position will be located at the Department of Food and Nutrition.

The university lecturer will strengthen the Department’s teaching and research portfolio in food science including food innovation activities. We expect the appointee to possess strong expertise regarding food constituents, their chemical reactions and interactions and analytical methods as well as having knowledge on their biological effects.  The appointee must have necessary pedagogical skills to supervise, teach and develop teaching both in the Bachelor’s and the Master’s Programme in Food Science as well in doctoral training.

REQUIREMENTS

The appointee to the position shall hold an applicable doctoral degree and be able to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses and dissertations. When assessing the qualifications of the applicants, attention shall be paid to scientific publications and other scientific merits, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a teaching demonstration.

Pursuant to the Government Decree on Universities, appointees to teaching and research positions at the University must be proficient in the language in which they provide instruction, i.e., Finnish or Swedish. The language of instruction in the position is Finnish. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must also at least satisfactory spoken and written skills in Swedish. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must have good English language skills.

The salary will be based on levels 5-7 of the requirements level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. Monthly gross salary for a university lecturer varies between 3 410 and 5 500 euros depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. Occupational health care services and standard Finnish pension benefits are provided for University employees. There is a six-month trial period in the position.

    The Department of Food and Nutrition is a one of the six departments  of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. The Department employs about 140 people including 25 teaching positions.  We address the challenges of food system sustainability by researching and developing food ingredients and production methods that support the transition to a healthier and more sustainable diet. In our changing society, the need for research-based knowledge on food, diets and their health effects as well as the special needs of different consumer groups is growing.
