to Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oulu!

Work environment

A university lecturer position is available in the field of Biomedical Engineering in the Research Unit of Medical Imaging, Physics and Technology (MIPT) (https://www.oulu.fi/en/university/faculties-and-units/faculty-medicine/medical-imaging-physics-and-technology ) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu (http://www.oulu.fi/medicine/ ). The mission of MIPT is to perform internationally significant cross-disciplinary research and to deliver high-level undergraduate and postgraduate education in the fields of radiology, medical physics, medical technology, and biomedical engineering. Research at MIPT is carried out in more than 10 research groups.

Required qualifications and assessment

The successful applicant must hold a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, medical technology, medical physics, or related discipline. Fluency in both written and spoken English, as well as good communication and teamwork skills, are required. The position requires also satisfactory communication skills in Finnish. We expect demonstrated experience in teaching of biomedical engineering – evidenced both by course teaching and supervision of B.Sc., M.Sc., and/or Ph.D. students. In addition, good knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as medical equipments and their regulations are considered as benefit. Digital pedagogical skills would be desired from a canditate. University Lecturer position requires completed university pedagogy training, or willingness to compete the training within the first two years after starting.

Besides teaching experience, we value experience in scientific writing, and skills in acquiring external funding.

Starting date and duration

The duration of the position is 5 years. The starting date is August 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of the 5-year contract.

Salary

The salary will be based on level 5 or 6 of the demand level chart for university-level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). In practice, the gross salary is roughly 3 300 – 4 200 €/month, depending on qualifications, performance, and experience.
