Faculty of social sciences is looking for a university instructor to join the School of Social Research for fixed term 1 September 2021 – 31 July 2023. 

University instructor will teach and coordinate joint teaching in English-language Master’s Programme in Social Science Research. Programme has five independent specialisations: Comparative Social Policy and Welfare; Gender Studies; Global and Transnational Sociology; Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research; Public Policy Analysis. The university instructor’s main duty will be to oversee and carry joint teaching on career development and professional skills.

The School of Social Research is the largest unit in the Faculty of Social Sciences (SOC) with several study programmes. Its key research themes are the transformation of social governance, social and societal processes and risks, and the challenges of well-being and sustainable development. Teaching and research overlap at all levels of education; teaching is research-based, and all teachers are active researchers. The School is a highly appreciated and attractive workplace with an excellent collegial spirit.

Job description

In Social Science Research programme the university instructor will:

• Oversee and carry joint teaching on career development and professional skills.
• Coordinate research method teaching

• Develop and support developing solutions for digital teaching together with other teachers

• Give student guidance and thesis supervision 
• Participate in curriculum planning and administrative work
• Conduct research

• Collaborate closely with other teaching and research personnel

Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected 

• to hold a master’s degree in social sciences.
• to have prior teaching and supervision experience in higher education
• to have strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. 
• to communicate fluently in English.

Following are considered an advantage:  

·A doctoral degree

·Research publications 

• Experience in international and/or english-language degree education in social sciences
• Pedagogical studies
• Proficiency in the Finnish language

We offer 

Fixed term from 1 September 2021 to 31 July 2023. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. 

Salaries at Tampere University are based on the Finnish University Salary System for teaching and research staff. The preliminary job demands level for a university instructor is 5. In addition, employees receive performance-based pay.
