The Helsinki Institute of Physics (HIP, www.hip.fi ) is a physics research institute that is operated
jointly by the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, the University of Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology, Tampere University and the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority STUK.

The research activity at the institute covers an extensive range of subjects in theoretical physics,
particle physics and instrumentation. The mandate of HIP is to carry out and facilitate research in
basic and applied physics as well as in physics research and technology development at
international accelerator laboratories. HIP is responsible for the Finnish research collaboration with CERN in Geneva, Switzerland and FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. The mission of the Detector Laboratory, operated jointly by HIP and the University of Helsinki Faculty of Science, is to support the instrumentation and teaching of particle and nuclear physics and participate in externally funded research projects.

Helsinki Institute of Physics searches for its Detector Laboratory is looking for a


for permanent position starting from 1.1.2020 or according to agreement. The staff scientist
will be employed by the University of Helsinki.

Tasks of the university researcher/staff scientist

- Maintain and develop scientific equipment of the laboratory and their operating and
analysing software (e.g. optical scanners, GeGI imaging detector, NI PXI data acquisition
system, Transient Current Technique TCT measurement system);
- Design, construct and commission new equipment and their electronics and data collection
- Participate in the maintenance of laboratory facilities including clean rooms;
- Participate in and initiate scientific research projects;
- Participate in outreach activities;
- Participate in the teaching of instrumentation;
- Other tasks related to the development of the laboratory.

The starting salary will be of the senior researcher will be ca. 3900–4200 euros/month
