Trainee for Improving the Living and Labour Conditions of Irregularised Migrant Households in Europe
The University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master’s programme.
We are now looking for a TRAINEE for EU Horizon Europe funded international consortium Improving the Living and Labour Conditions of Irregularised Migrant Households in Europe (I-Claim)
The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September to 31 December 2024 (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €700 per month for a part-time (50%) trainee.
About the position
As a trainee you will be working in the discipline of Sociology with Professor Lena Näre and postdoctoral researcher Paula Merikoski. We conduct research on irregularised migrants who are currently working or who have previously worked in domestic cleaning and caring and in agrifood industry in Finland. As a trainee your duties include assisting Merikoski and Näre in conducting qualitative research interviews and/or participant observation with migrants who have irregular or precarious legal status in Finland, translations of the interview materials and interviews as well as interpretation in interaction with research participants.
The person we are looking for
We are looking for a person who has experience or demonstrates strong interest in qualitative research methods (interviews and/or ethnographic methods), excellent communication skills, command of English language and command of at least one of the languages relevant to our research focus, such as Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Somali, Tagalog or Ukrainian, as well as interest in migration and refugee studies. This position requires high sensitivity towards people in precarious situations.
