We are inviting applications for a tenure track position (Professor (Full) or Associate Professor) in Regional Studies. The position is in the Administrative Studies Unit  and serves the needs of the Faculty of Management and Business more broadly.   

Job description   

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished academic to 

• conduct, organise and supervise high-quality scientific research
• give research-based teaching
• engage in societal interaction and international academic collaboration
• commit to developing the discipline

The Professor or Associate professor is responsible for developing the theories and methodologies of regional studies in teaching and research. The applicant’s research interests should cover specific fields of regional studies combining the study of political phenomena with the study of national and international conflicts and their management. Proven merits in obtaining international competitive research funding and developing and renewing theories and methodologies of regional studies on high international level are required. The task requires good communication skills in English and Finnish (or a strong motivation to learn Finnish as the teaching program is mainly in Finnish).  

Requirements  

Professor, we require:  

• applicable doctoral degree
• high-level scholarly expertise
• experience of leading scientific research activities
• ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
• track record of winning external research funding
• track record of international scholarly activity
• track record of supervising doctoral dissertations and doctoral education
• strong experience in teaching and good teaching skills
• track record of societal impact

Associate Professor, we require: 

• applicable doctoral degree
• track record of independent scholarly activity
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
• ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding
• track record of international scholarly activity
• track record of continuous, increasing and high-level research activities

The top candidates will be interviewed. If necessary, aptitude assessment may also be used. In addition, the candidates may be required to demonstrate their teaching skills. The shortlisted candidates will be evaluated by external experts. 

We offer  

The professor (full) position is permanent, and the position of associate professor is initially for five years 1.8.2024–31.7.2029. If successful, the tenure track professor will tenure at the end of the first five-year period. The principles of the tenure evaluation are laid out in the tenure track career system at Tampere University . Support will be provided throughout the five-year period to ease the transition to a permanent faculty position. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.  

Salary is based on the job-related salary element (the requirement of duties) and the employees’ personal performance. The starting salary of a professor will range between 6200–6700 EUR/month, and of an associate professor between 5200–5700 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be possible depending on the candidate’s experience and performance. Salary is measured in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System.
