We are now inviting applications for a Tenure Track Position in Finance We are especially interested in applicants targeting the Associate Professor level. The objective is that the position holder will be merited to meet the requirements for the position of a full professor in the later stage of her/his career. The Tenure track position in Finance is based in the School of Accounting and Finance. The School is among Finland’s largest educational departments in business studies having education and research in four  academic disciplines: Accounting, Business Law, Economics, and Finance. The School of Accounting and Finance is a prolific unit renowned for its high-quality research. The School’s main focus areas of research are (1) Financial Markets, Instruments, and Institutions, (2) Financial Analysis of Firm Policies and Outcomes, (3) Governance and Compliance, (4) Responsibility and Sustainability, and (5) Risk Measurement and Management. Over recent years, the School’s faculty members have published numerous articles in highly-regarded finance, accounting, and business journals such as the Journal of Banking and FinanceJournal of Empirical FinanceJournal of Business Finance & AccountingJournal of Accounting ResearchJournal of Financial ResearchJournal of International Money and FinanceJournal of Business Research, and the Journal of Business Ethics.

Job description and requirements

The role of the tenure track position holder is to further strengthen the School’s research activities by covering one or more of its focus areas of research mentioned above (e.g. Responsibility and Sustainability). In line with the strategy of the University of Vaasa, the position holder can also take part in the activities of the multidisciplinary research platforms  of the University. The themes of these research platforms are Energy and Sustainability, Digital Economy, and Innovations and Entrepreneurship. 

The Tenure Track position is research-orientated, but the appointed person will also acquire external funding, deliver high-quality teaching and theses supervision, actively participate in activities within the scientific community and university administration, as well as create societal impact through their work. The teaching and supervision responsibilities are mainly connected to the Bachelor’s Programme in Accounting and Finance, the EFMD-accredited Master’s Degree Programme in Finance, and the Doctoral Programme in Business Studies. The annual working time is 1612 hours and tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan.

The applicants are expected to have already achieved academic competence in research and teaching. This means evidence of research that meets high international standards and is published in highly-regarded finance journals, excellent and proven teaching skills, and the ability to acquire external funding. In addition the successful candidate will have a  broad network of collaborators and can show evidence of societal impact as well as experience in development and administration within the academic community. Pedagogical education is considered as merit in this position.
