 The Unit of Administrative Studies (UoAS) at the faculty of management and business is the largest research unit in the field of administrative sciences in Finland. The unit works with public administrations and provide leading research on public activities, regional development, environmental politics, and the interface between public and private organizations. 

The mission of UoAS is to promote independent academic research, to provide research-based higher education in administrative science, and to educate students to serve their society and humanity at large. UoAS aims to advance its fields and to achieve high international standards and integrity in research.   

 We are looking for an Associate Professor or Professor in Administrative Science in the field of public security governance (tenure track level 2 – 3). Administrative Science covers management and leadership of public organizations and private organizations aiming at accomplishment of public policy goals, seeking to establish rules of operation and promote their development. The position is located in the degree programme of administrative studies. 

The appointee will work at the unit of administrative studies at the Faculty of Management and Business. The appointee will participate in teaching at the international degree programme of safety and security governance (Safer). Research insight on the functions, structures and operations of administration in government (e.g. European, central, regional and local), is a necessity for the prospective candidate. Selected person will be responsible for developing the programme and especially its track in the degree programme of Administrative studies.

  • pursue and lead high-quality scientific research in the field of Administrative Science, especially public security governance
  • develop the field of security governance within Administrative studies
  • actively seek external research funding
  • contribute to societal impact and international collaboration in the field
  • give research-based teaching and contribute to planning and administrative tasks in the degree programme and doctoral programme in administrative studies especially in administrative science

 Requirements 

 The posts of Associate Professor and Professor require fluency in English.  

 Associate Professor 

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • track record of independent scholarly activity
  • teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
  • ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding
  • track record of international scholarly activity

 Professor 

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • high-level scholarly expertise
  • experience of leading scientific research activities
  • ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
  • track record of winning external research funding
  • track record of international scholarly activity

We offer 

Initial appointment as Associate Professor is for five years and, subject to successful performance you will become a tenured member of faculty at the end of the first five-year period. You will be supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to a permanent faculty position. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. 

Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The minimum starting salary of an Associate Professor will range between approx. 4600 – 5200 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed dependent upon experience and/or performance.
