Technical Assistant

The Helsinki Collegium for Advanced studies (HCAS) is looking for a technical assistant to help the unit in tasks related to academic events, communications, and day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will be appointed for a fixed term of two years, on the grounds of temporary organization of work at HCAS, from August 15 2024 until August 14 2026.

Requirements for the position

The main duty of the technical assistant is to support the HCAS team in the organization of academic events, day-to-day communications (e.g. the Collegium’s website, visual communications related to events, and social media), and other practical tasks related to the operations of an international research community.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Master’s Degree in any field in the humanities or social sciences
  • excellent command of English and Finnish (the main working language of the Collegium is English)
  • willingness to engage in practical duties, especially related to the organization of events
  • ability to take on the role of a host and make sure that events run smoothly
  • skills related to communications, photo and video editing, and/or graphic design
  • good collaborative and problem-solving skills
  • good IT skills

A brisk attitude and good team spirit, adaptability to unexpected situations, and good organizational skills are considered an additional asset as well as motivation to work in an international academic community.

What we offer

The salary for the position will be based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for specialist and support staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The gross monthly salary is about €2,600–€2,900. There is a six-month trial period for the position
