STAFF SCIENTIST

The position starts on January 1st, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter in effect until further notice.

The tasks and qualifications we are looking for

The Staff Scientist will be placed in the departments of Chemistry as well as Biological and Environmental Science (50/50). More specifically, the position will be placed in the Nanoscience Center (https://www.jyu.fi/science/en/nanoscience-center ), especially supporting the operations of the Laser Laboratory (Laserlab-NSC (https://www.jyu.fi/science/en/nanoscience-center/research/infrastructures/laser-laboratory ). The Staff Scientist participates in developing the collaboration between chemistry, biology and physics. The Staff Scientist holds the main responsibility of the operation, development, and measurement services of the Scattering Near field Optical Microscope, SNOM, and is responsible for SNOM-related collaboration in the Academy of Finland funded infrastructure project qCSI-consortium (http://qcsi.fi/ ). The Staff Scientist will be responsible for the operation and development of spectrometers (FTIR, UV/Vis, CD, Fluorescence, Raman-techniques, DLS) and participates in the upkeeping and development of confocal microscopes. Additionally, the Staff Scientist participates in the upkeeping, development, and measurement operation of femtosecond spectroscopic laser techniques (pump and probe, four wave mixing and other non-linear techniques, upconversion of fluorescence) as well as single photon counting technique and of the tunable nanosecond laser equipment (optical parametric oscillator). Measurement operations include both internal and external services. Other tasks include small scale acquisitions, supporting of teaching, as well as participation in writing of scientific publications.

You are the person we are looking for if you have a relevant doctoral degree. Experience evidenced by publications in as many as possible of the spectroscopic techniques mentioned above are considered beneficial. The position also requires proficiency in both oral and written English.

The annual salary range will be approximately 40,000 – 50,000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. There is a trial period of six months at the start of the period of employment.
