Work tasks

Luke is establishing a modern material flow research infrastructure on agricultural ecosystems in Finland, including nutrient leaching monitoring, soil water measurements water level control systems and greenhouse gas (GHG) flux measurement systems. We are now seeking for Data Scientist / Data Manager to establish, co-ordinate and further develop water related data flows from instruments to data products to be open for users. Data Scientist / Data Manager will manage the data processing workflow and QC/QA and provide data support for researchers. The Data Scientist / Data Manager will work in close co-operation with GHG data management and at the interface of enthusiastic scientists and modelers at Luke, a dedicated Digital Solutions team and field technicians to help us to provide high-quality data and science towards more sustainable agricultural and forest production. Luke is aiming to integrate its Water and GHG data to national and international research activities.

Qualifications

Absolute requirements:
• Master's degree in relevant fields such as hydrology, limnology, physics, engineering, forestry or environmental sciences
• experience in instrumentation and maintenance of hydrological and water quality data, site operation, data processing and quality analysis, and management of large data sets
• strong programming (e.g. Python, R, Matlab) and timeseries analysis skills
• expertise in biogeochemical cycles and processes that control the leaching of nutrients and water flows in terrestrial ecosystems
• good networking skills and the ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary international team
• readiness to travel

Salary

 The position is at complexity level 9 in Luke's salary system and the position-specific salary is EUR 3.686,47 per month. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid (max. 50% of the position-specific salary). A new employee's personal performance component depends on competence and experience and generally falls in the range of 15-20%. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
