Senior Scientist, Sustainable Business

We are now looking for a Senior Scientist for our Sustainable Business team. Sustainability is the key driver behind the current transitions towards future economies and the concrete future understanding has become a strategic asset for companies and societies. General challenge is to understand what kind of business solutions will benefit not only the businesses but also customers and societies - creating win-win- solutions. A well-designed sustainability strategy, based on fact-based reasoning, provides a sound and future-looking foundation for making business. Supported by in-house technology experts we work daily with manufacturing, process, energy, and food industries to bring industrial relevance and value from sustainability and circularity.

In this position, you will play a key role in the development of VTT’s excellence on sustainable business and how this knowledge is turned into actionable sustainability strategies for companies. The excellence is built by an ambitious, evolving, and shared research and customer agendas. A central part of this position is to participate in the development of sustainable strategy offering and sales.

Our team is located in Espoo and Tampere so you can work from either location.

With us, you will be responsible for:

• Development and design of sustainability strategy offering and active participation in the development of the contract research portfolio.
• Supporting the development of the strategic excellence of the team.
• Active collaboration with the Future-proof societies and Ethics and responsibility of innovations teams.
• Participating for the team’s research agendacreation and execution.
• With your high ambition level and goal-oriented mindset, you ensure the high quality and impactof the project work done for our customers.
• As one of the key experts of the area, you participate hands-on in relevantresearch and customer project work. This is a key role in the organization in which you will have the opportunity to buildand drive forward impactful research and high customer value.
• Contributing to key framework, methodology, tools, and competences development together with your team, relevant VTT experts and partners (incl. i.e., technology or business design companies)
• Publishing in different media (journals, conference papers, some publications, other publications)

We expect you to have:

• You have at least 5 year’s working experience on the sustainable business area.
• You have a PhD or equivalent science experience of the area, with excellent academic credits.
• Strong understanding on the sustainability strategies in businesses. You have acted as a consultant (management consulting / strategy consulting) or in other relevant role in (i.e. corporate strategy or business development roles) in companies or research organisations.
• Strong understanding on the three pillars of sustainability: economic, ecologic and society.
• Excellence in designing relevant offerings for the companies and development of contract research portfolio.
• Proven track record in driving impact in research and results in sales.
• Strategic thinking skills with ability to execute.
• Strong communication skills with C-level readiness. Ability to build collaboration and networks with different stakeholders.
• Proficiency in English and Finnish languages.
