VTT is one of the leading research organizations in Europe and we are operating the largest R&D cleanroom in the Nordic countries in Micronova  premises, Espoo. We develop innovative enabling technologies, and apply them to practical micro- and nanosystems. We are working closely with majority of the global players in the microelectronics field including demanding industrial partners.  What unites us at VTT are curiosity, a passion of learning and a devotion to finding solutions to global challenges and answers to our customers’ needs. You can familiarize with us further by exploring VTT’s research infra through VTT World .

We are looking for ambitious and results-oriented researcher to make an impact for the future of MEMS development. With us, you will act in a key role to develop new components for the different application fields of MEMS sensors. Even though you are solving problems creatively together with a team of design and process experts, you understand the big picture and want to contribute to the field in a global perspective. For the position, we are looking for a person with a strong background in the various design aspects of MEMS components, including simulation expertise with Comsol or similar tools. You know how to build measurement setups and experiment in various laboratory environments.

With us, you will be responsible for

  • Designing and modeling novel MEMS components together with our other designers and process development experts.
  • Characterization tasks of such components in our measurement facilities.
  • Identifying and solving the key issues within your domain of expertise.
  • Communicating and solving those issues in tight collaboration with others at VTT.
  • Communicating and solving problems with external partners.
  • Participating in the building of opportunities through project acquisition and management.

 We expect you to have

We are looking for a person with experience in design and characterization of MEMS components, and a master’s or PhD level degree in physics, electrical engineering, or other relevant field. Your interests are primarily in technological aspects of the devices. Numerical modeling, programming skills as well as data and statistical analysis are certainly your assets in the efficient design work. You are proficient in English.

We are interested in all levels of professionals for this position, but practical working knowledge of at least one of the following areas and a keen interest for the rest is needed: piezoelectric MEMS, optical MEMS, acoustic filters and ultrasonics. • At least 2 years of experience in research and development of MEMS components.
  • Device design experience including numerical and analytical modelling.
  • Preparation, acquisition and/ or management of national/ international cooperation projects.

Any of the following are considered beneficial but expertise is not necessary

  • Cleanroom experience to the extent that it helps in device design.
  • Device characterization experience.
  • CAD design.

As a person, you strive for excellent results but also prioritize and make pragmatic choices. You are focused and systematic. You contribute to a positive team spirit and prioritize the needs of the team high. You are hardworking but you also communicate, collaborate, document, and delegate effectively.
