Senior Scientist, Computational Materials Science

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 14 Sep 2022

Are you interested in numerical materials design, and looking for a new job opportunity in the field? Do you dream of developing and utilizing world-class computational materials modelling tools and integrating modern experimental research in your work? VTT might be just the place for you. As an expert of metallic and ceramic materials, you might be our future colleague!

VTT is one of the leading applied research organisations in Europe. What unites us are curiosity, a passion for learning and a purpose: to solve the biggest challenges of our time and turn them into sustainable growth and well-being. Our cross-disciplinary community of over 2000 brilliant minds is focused on creating impact through science-based innovation. Get to know us further by exploring VTT’s research infra at VTT World .

We are now looking for a Senior Scientist to join our Materials Modeling team (focusing on metallic materials).

As a Senior Scientist, your key goals are developing the team’s knowledge and project portfolio towards strategic targets and further ensure that our capabilities and results are in line with the demands of our customers.

In this position, you are to solve materials science and engineering problems by using methods of computational condensed matter physics, especially density functional theory. In this position, you will have an essential role in develop high-throughput materials simulation schemes for curation of the Process-Structure-Property relationships data. With the data generated, you will use them to develop machine learning models for guiding the design of new materials.

Our team, ProperTune ICME, focuses on the development of material models and their predictive capabilities enabling time and resource savings and higher operation performance for the entire life-cycle of a product. We are specialized in numerical materials modeling and design technologies.

We are using multiscale modelling for optimal computational materials design, and replacing expensive, time-consuming testing. We have spent last two decades to develop modelling tools across length and time scales together with our industrial partners and applied them to their critical components in mechanical machines and devices. With our modelling excellence, we aim to shorten the time-to-market of high-performance materials by an average of 50%. Our team have successfully worked with customers such as Wärtsilä, Caterpillar and ArcelorMittal.
