Offer Description
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Turku (UTU ) in Finland welcomes Senior Researcher applications in the group of Prof. Jovana V. Milić .
The position is related to the beginning ERC Starting Grant project on “Smart hybrid materials for opto(electro)ionics” (SmartHyMat) from the 1st of September 2024 to 31st of August 2029 led by Professor Jovana V. Milić. The 3-years subproject will include the development of smart and sustainable energy technologies based on stimuli-responsive hybrid organic-inorganic materials. This fixed-term position starts on September 1, 2024 and ends on August 31, 2027, and it could potentially be extended. The start of employment is expected from the beginning of September, but it can be postponed upon agreement.
Job description
This position will include the development of smart and sustainable energy technologies based on stimuli-responsive hybrid organic-inorganic materials, focusing on photovoltaics and memory elements. The project will predominantly involve hybrid materials, thin films, and their functional device fabrication and characterization. This will require the analysis of optoelectronic properties, as well as fabrication and characterization of functional devices for energy conversion, with application in photovoltaics and memory elements. The senior researcher will be provided with support in their research and professional development.
Who we are looking for
The applicant is expected to have the following qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Materials Science or Engineering, Physics, or a related field, preferably with a focus on Organic and/or Hybrid Electronics and/or Photovoltaics
Experience in optoelectronic device fabrication and characterization
Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral)
Supervision and lab management experience are considered an advantage
Additional experience in materials chemistry is considered an advantage
Commitment to scientific integrity and willingness to work in a collaborative setting

Salary and trial period
The salary will be based on levels 4-6 of the demands level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary system applied at Finnish universities, according to which the base salary for the position is 2775,28 – 3747,44 euros per month. In addition, a performance-based salary component of up to 50 % will be paid. The salary will in the beginning of the employment be approximately 3 400 –4 300 €/month. The exact salary will depend on the applicant’s competence and research experience and will be determined by the work contract.
A six-month trial period applies to the position.
