Senior Research Fellow, Senior Researcher and Project Researcher/Doctoral Researcher

Professor Olli Pentikäinen (MedChem.fi-laboratory , Institute of Biomedicine ) seeks researchers with doctoral degrees (Senior Research Fellow and Senior Researcher) and Project Researcher/Doctoral Researcher to participate in the development and application of macrocyclic and small molecule drug discovery techniques. The positions require good English interaction, communication skills, and experience in an applied discipline. All posts may include close collaboration with pharmaceutical companies. The project is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and enables multiple employment contracts.

The priority of expertise is following:

(1) Software development (C++). This position includes the development of an open-source modeling environment and the development of novel drug discovery tools (one or two positions).

(2) Development of AI/ML-based tools for drug discovery. This position includes the development of various AI/ML-based strategies to develop high-affinity ligands for drug discovery and model development for pharmacokinetic properties. (One position)

(3) Synthesis of amino acid-based macrocycles. The position is suitable for a person with medicinal chemistry background and experience with macrocycle synthesis. (Max. one position)

(4) Modelling of protein-ligand complexes, including vHTS and MD. Experience with some tools used in computer-depended drug discovery and/or molecular dynamics simulation techniques is required. (Max. one position)

(5) In vitro (and possibly X-ray crystallography) measurements for various drug discovery targets. All experience with different in vitro techniques would be beneficial. Likely, the key methods employed are MST and DSF. (Max. one position)

Positions are initially offered for max. two years, with a possible extension until 31.8.2025 (senior level) or 31.8.2026 (project/doctoral researcher). A trial period of six (6) months is applied in all positions. The start of employment is negotiable from an immediate basis, but we expect you to be available by 1 January 2023 at the latest.

The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure . The Project Researcher is required to have a suitable higher university degree. An interest to apply for a right to study for a doctoral degree later is an advantage.

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The job demand level salary is for:

  • a project/doctoral researcher 2108,40–2628,85 euros per month (levels 2–4)
  • a senior researcher 2628,85–3549,72 euros per month (levels 4–6)
  • a senior research fellow 3044,00–4092,29 euros per month (levels 5–7)

In addition, a personal salary element will be paid. The personal salary element is 6–50 % of the job-specific salary element.
