We are now looking for two Research Team Leaders to join VTT food research area

VTT food research is focusing on research, development and innovation actions that enable transition towards more sustainable food ecosystem. We aim at developing new sustainable food production and manufacturing solutions which enable production of products and services that meet consumer needs and preferences. Our R&D services focus especially on innovations that enable using plant and side-stream as food materials. We harness biotechnology for renewal and improvement of food processes. We develop food solutions that are based on cross-industry innovations and generate new business opportunities.

With us you will be responsible for

As a Team Leader you will be leading a food research team with research scientists, research engineers and technicians. You are responsible for building the excellence and technology development for sustainable ingredient technologies and food design. Besides, we expect motivation in exploring new, even disruptive ways to produce food and promote consumers health and wellbeing by eating, and thus build new business opportunities via the food system transition.

Specifically, we are looking for a team leader, who has concrete knowledge on ingredient and food processing technologies and related unit operations, as well as understanding on the linkage between raw material properties via the ingredient functionality up to food applicability and eating solutions.

We have two Team Leader positions open: One team has more focus on fractionation and ingredient technologies, and food solutions for cereal products and dairy substitutes, whereas another team focuses on food product design with specific focus on meat alternatives, as well as sensory and nutrition science. The two teams are expected to work closely together to build the joint excellence and project portfolio for VTT food research.

We expect you to have
  • Experience in leading people and research
  • Customer-centric approach in R&D and broad understanding on industry needs
  • Track record in applying project funding and ability to conduct academic and contract research within an interdisciplinary environment
  • Networks within food industry as well as scientific community
  • Completed PhD degree or profound experience in food science and technology.
  • Excellent communication, reporting and organizational skills

You should have a mind-set for industry-oriented evaluation of scientific findings and ambition to turn research to business.
