We are now looking for a visionary Research Team Leader for our Optical spectroscopy team.
In this position, you will lead research on optical spectroscopy based high-end sensing technologies to create new measurement solutions for demanding applications in industry. As a Research Team Leader, you are responsible for leading your team and its project portfolio to create increasing impact for customers and stakeholders. You also contribute to research projects yourself.
Optical spectroscopy team focuses especially on developing on-line measurement solutions based on laser-based isotope spectroscopy and active hyperspectral technology. We aim to open new ways to improve sustainability in industrial processes and energy production by more advanced optical sensing technologies. The research is carried out in close collaboration with companies and other research partners.
Your responsibilities as Research Team Leader:
- This is a line manager role, so you are responsible for coaching the team and team members’ performance as an inspirational leader. Employee wellbeing, recruitment and team competence development are your key priorities.
- Visionary leadership of the team. In response to evolving needs of customers and stakeholders, you will develop your team’s research agenda together with the team. You will be the spokesperson for the research topic and take an active role in promoting its visibility.
- Relevance and ambition of the team’s project portfolio and impactful collaboration with companies, policy makers and other stakeholders.
- Leading and actively taking part in project preparations with customers and other partners. Working as one of the key contributors of the area and participating in relevant research projects by yourself.
- As member of the research area’s leadership team, you find ways to combine competences and foster internal-/external collaboration to ensure wider impact.

Who we are looking for:
- Several years of working experience in recent sensor technologies and developing measurement solutions.
- Fields of expertise: optics and photonics, more specifically hyperspectral sensing and/or laser spectroscopy
- Proven skills in research and development for industrial applications with a track record in driving excellence and impact in the area of research.
- Experience in industrial collaboration with customer / stakeholder networks is considered as an asset
- Work history in managing a team or leading project teams
- As a leader, you want to create positive drive and get people excited by coaching and setting ambitious targets together with the team. Strong interpersonal skills are required in the position.
- You have a Master of Science degree in a relevant field or equivalent science experience. A doctoral degree is considered as an asset.
- Good communication skills and ability to build high value research collaboration in the area. You should be proficient in English language.
