Doctoral Researcher to study sustainable cropping practices in organic farming.
Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is seeking for a researcher targeting for a doctorate in field plant production to work on cropping system diversification research in organic cropping. We offer a 48-month position as a researcher for working in a Finnish Organic Research Institute funded project: “Developing intercropping for increased resilience and functional biodiversity in organic crop production”. The work is engaged in fields of agroecology and integrated pest management in Luke and in plant production science at the department of agricultural sciences of University of Helsinki, as well as Luke Doctoral Programme and AGFOREE Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources at University of Helsinki.
The researcher will work under the supervision of the researchers of Natural Resources Institute (Luke) and University of Helsinki. The researcher will work as a researcher in Luke’s Plant Health group. The work is engaged in fields of agroecology and integrated pest management in Luke and in plant production science at the department of agricultural sciences of University of Helsinki.
Our expectations of the applicant
We expect the applicant to have a Master level degree from agricultural sciences or relevant discipline, good written and oral communication skills, capability for field work and travelling, driving license and motivation for research. Earlier experience of research project work, handling and analysis of empirical data, and knowledge of organic farming is of advantage for succeeding in the work. The position also requires good oral and written knowledge of the English language. The chosen one must apply for the right to perform a doctoral degree from the University of Helsinki within 6 months after recruitment.
