The research professor is expected to carry out solution-oriented research on the economics of agriculture and the food chain from farm to fork. Key aspects include: the evaluation of the performance of agricultural and food markets; the analysis of systemic changes affecting agriculture and the food chain; innovation in agriculture and in the food industry, in particular with regard to potentially transformative new climate-smart production technologies and products, e.g. food produced without land or other innovations causing radical changes in the food chain; the analysis of changes in demand for agricultural products and related shifts in preferences; and the emergence of new business opportunities for the Finnish agri-food chain. The work will produce new insights into the competitiveness of Finnish agriculture as well as the functionality and efficiency of agricultural product markets in Finland, the EU, and globally. By shedding light on new opportunities and analysing food chain-related big data, the work will inform the decisions of the main stakeholders in agriculture, food industry and policymaking.
At a broader level, the research professors tasks are to: 1. Conduct, direct and communicate high-quality project-based research in agricultural and food economics. 2. Be active and visible in relevant national and international networks in research and beyond. 3. Acquire external funding for research and customer projects. 4. Co-operate with stakeholders when designing, carrying out and disseminating projects. 5. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals. 6. Disseminate research results to a variety of audiences, including the relevant policy-makers, business actors and civil society interested in agricultural and food issues.
