Research Centre for Knowledge, Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (TaSTI) at the Faculty of Social Sciences is a research unit conducting multidisciplinary research on the activities and dynamics of research communities, innovation environments and science and innovation policies.

The Innovation studies group of TaSTI will recruit a Research Assistant to work part-time (around 25-30%) in ongoing project “Ruokaprovinssi - The Sustainable and Responsible Food Province ”, funded by European Regional Development Fund. The position is conducive to concurrent university studies.

We are looking for applicants who are interested in sustainability and responsibility, food systems and their environmental and social impacts, as well as regional cooperation among different actors and stakeholders. 

Job Description

Research Assistant’s tasks include taking part in mapping of existing good practices of sustainability and responsibility work within food systems, both locally and globally, assisting in coordination of Tampere University’s participation in the Ruokaprovinssi project, communication and dissemination activities. All these will be conducted as a teamwork and thus an assistant will be closely integrated into the activities of the research group. 

Requirements 

To apply for this position, you need very good (C1 level) communication skills in both Finnish and English, a basic understanding of research methods, and interest in the sustainability of food systems. Good command of the common software programs is also needed. Organizational and dissemination skills are highly appreciated. This position is suitable for a university student on Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

The position of the Research Assistant is an excellent chance of working in a highly committed small research group in a versatile, multidisciplinary environment. This is a somewhat different research position where academic and practical interests intertwine, and where one will likely see also practical impacts of the work done.

Research Assistant’s preferred work period would start as soon as possible (end of April), and last until the end of August 2025. The starting date can be negotiated. A trial period applies to all new employees. We are based in Tampere, in the city center campus.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System . The position of Research Assistant is placed on the job demand level 1 (the demand level chart for the teaching and research staff). In addition, employees will receive a performance-based salary which for Research Assistants is based on their study credits. In this part time position the salary would be approximately between 500-700€/month.
