The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University invites applications for a fixed-term full-time  Research Assistant position for a period from 1 October 2022 to 31 May 2023.

Job Description

The project investigates fabrication of optical fiber based on the deposition of nanoparticles produced by a hydrogen-oxygen flame on the surface of a rotating fiber preform. The work is done in close collaboration with an industrial partner, in whose facilities a major fraction of experimental research is carried out during the project.

The task of the research assistant is to carry out experimental measurements related to the production of optical fiber using both optical methods and aerosol devices. The work also involves physical-chemical modeling of the progress of the sub-process in connection with the manufacture of optical fiber.

Requirements

The assumption is that the research assistant will write his/her diploma thesis about the work, which also serves as an official research report. The position is appropriate for a master’s thesis student. The position requires basic knowledge of phenomena in thermal physics, optics, and structure of matter, as well as basics of process chemistry, and additionally good written and oral communication skills in Finnish, English, or both.

The position is full time and will be filled for a fixed-term from 1 October 2022 to 31 May 2023. Starting date is negotiable. A trial period applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System . The position of Research Assistant is placed on the job demand level 1 (the demand level chart for the teaching and research staff). In addition, employees will receive performance-based salary, which for Research Assistant is based on ECTS.
