Offer Description

The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research unit focusing on human genomics and personalised medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki - a leading Nordic university with a strong commitment to life science research. As part of Academic Medical Center Helsinki in Meilahti campus FIMM collaborates locally with the Faculty of Medicine, Helsinki University Hospital and National Institute for Health and Welfare. FIMM is part of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, composed of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the centres for molecular medicine in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and the EU-LIFE Community.

FIMM is currently seeking for a Project Manager to join the Data Science and Genetic Epidemiology Lab.

The Data Science and Genetic Epidemiology Lab (https://www.dsgelab.org/ ) lead by Dr. Andrea Ganna is interested in the development or application of methods to early identify common preventable diseases. In our group, we integrate electronic health records, image data and genetic information from large biobank-based studies (e.g. https://www.finngen.fi/en ). Our team includes experts in machine learning, human genetics and epidemiology. The DSGE Lab is initiating several studies where genetic and AI-based models will be tested in real-life by recontacting individuals that have donated their samples to Finnish biobanks.

Job duties: The DSGE Lab is looking for a project manager to be an integrative part of the team. The candidate will lead an exciting study that aims to understand the value of AI and genetic data in identifying individuals with abnormal lab values. As part of this study, the candidate will oversee the ethical approvals, coordinate recontacting procedures together with Biobanks and insure the smooth execution of the study. Other tasks include handling data permissions, organizing data dictionaries, documentation, and basic data handling. The candidate will work closely with other members of the DSGE Lab.

Qualification and requirements: The candidate should be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills along with the ability to communicate effectively. The candidate should have knowledge in data management techniques and some basic coding skills. Experience in leading clinical studies and in obtaining ethical approval would be preferred. Having worked on FinData or Biobank applications is considered a plus. The candidate should have a master’s degree or a PhD in science-related subjects.

Contract & salary: The job is for a fixed term of an initial 2 years with a possibility to extend it for three years. A trial period of 6 months will be applied. The starting salary will be ca. 3,500 – 3,900 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience and including a salary component based on personal performance. Standard Finnish pension benefits and occupational health care are provided for University employees.

Knowledge of Finnish language is not required, but it is preferred because some of the study material will need to be drafted in English. We welcome applicants from a variety of gender identities, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Finland is a member of the EU, has high-quality free schooling (also in English), generous family benefits and healthcare, and was recently ranked as the best country in the world for expat families.  Finland and Helsinki region possess top expertise in sciences in terms of a vibrant talent pool, leading research, strong support services and functioning collaboration networks.
