The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research unit focusing on human genomics and personalised medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki - a leading Nordic university with a strong commitment to life science research. As part of Academic Medical Center Helsinki in Meilahti campus FIMM collaborates locally with the Faculty of Medicine, Helsinki University Hospital and National Institute for Health and Welfare. FIMM is part of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, composed of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the centres for molecular medicine in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and the EU-LIFE Community.

FIMM is currently seeking a new member to the FinnGen research project’s admin team with the position of 

Project Manager

FinnGen is a public-private research project that aims to better understand disease mechanisms by studying the genome and health data of 500,000 Finns. FinnGen's Partners include Finnish biobanks, Biobank Cooperative FINBB, university hospital districts, universities, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Finnish Red Cross Blood Service, Business Finland and thirteen international pharmaceutical companies. The Project Manager works in the FinnGen admin team and as a close working partner of FinnGen's Scientific Director, Professor Aarno Palotie. 

The tasks of the Project Manager include e.g., monitoring and coordinating the activities of the project's production and research teams, preparing the budget and monitoring the financial asepcts relating to revenues and expenses, monitoring the scientific progress and preparing progress report together with the Scientific Director, negotiating with current and potential new partners, overseeing project related procurement and contract preparation supported by UH admin and legal team, serving as a contact person to the project’s public funder Business Finland, practical coordination of the Steering Committee meetings and contract negotiations, and presenting the research at national and international scientific meetings when necessary. 

The position requires management experience, sufficient knowledge of genomics and biobanking and a general understanding of the industry's regulatory environment. Essential qualifications include also relevant higher level education (PhD is an advantage, but not required) and strong written and oral English skills. Finnish language skills are not mandatory, but considered beneficial.

The salary will be in accordance with the University salary (YPJ) system on previous qualifications, experience and performance in the position. The contract is offered for two years, with possibility for extension.
