Offer Description
Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business. We shape a sustainable future by making research breakthroughs in and across our disciplines, sparking the game changers of tomorrow and creating novel solutions to major global challenges. Our community is made up of 13 000 students, 400 professors and close to 4 500 other faculty and staff working on our dynamic campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.
The School of Electrical Engineering is one of the six schools of Aalto University. Our portfolio covers fields from natural sciences to engineering and information sciences. In parallel with basic research, we develop ideas and technologies further into innovations and services. We are experts in systems science; we develop integrated solutions – from care for the elderly to space robotics. The School is an international unit with close to 60 professors and 2 000 full-time students, including over 200 doctoral students.
The Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering invites applications for PROFESSORS IN INTEGRATED CIRCUIT DESIGN (TENURE TRACK). There are two positions open: one is open at any professorial level and the other at the assistant level.
We are looking for highly qualified academic specialists in the broad area of integrated circuit design. Possible focus areas can include, but are not limited to, radio transceivers, sensors, analogue/digital/RF circuits, and systems on chip. As a faculty member, you will complement our department's current expertise in integrated circuit design, which focuses on microwave engineering, mixed-mode circuits and sensor interface electronics, by bringing fresh, new research ideas and perspectives into our community. This position provides you with an excellent opportunity to conduct state-of-the-art hands-on IC research with modern technologies and excellent infrastructure, enabling IC measurements from DC to THz.
Your experience and ambitions
You have:
• a doctoral degree in electrical engineering or a related field
• expertise in any of the integrated circuit design sub-fields, such as communications, microwave engineering, analogue/digital/RF-circuits, sensors and sensor interface electronics, energy harvesting and power management, radars, imaging and hardware accelerators, machine learning, health and well-being, internet-of-things, artificial intelligence
• the potential to carry out high-quality research and raise research funding to build up your own research group
• a passion to collaborate with industry
• the ability to build a high-level international contact network
• motivation to teach and develop teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
• a fluent command of both written and spoken English
Scientific environment
You will join the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The department’s research areas include integrated circuit design, microwave engineering, electromagnetics, space science and technology as well as photonics and nanotechnology. Our researchers in IC design work with sensor interface electronics, energy harvesters, RF/MM/analogue/DSP ICs for wireless, radars, antennas, and related electronics. In these fields, our researchers work in close collaboration with several national and international leading research institutes and companies.
The department has excellent measurement facilities with a wide variety of measurement equipment. The equipment ranges from DSP and DC analysers to THz network analysers and anechoic chambers. The department also has cutting-edge design tools, comprehensively including IC technology design kits, EM simulators and DSP design tools.
Contract and Aalto tenure track
The open positions belong to our tenure track system . One position can be filled at the assistant, associate or full professor level, and the other will be filled at the assistant professor level.
