The Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering conducts research and arranges related courses in the fields of electromagnetics, micro and nanotechnology, radio engineering, and space technology. The department research groups have active national and international collaboration with several institutes and companies. Research groups are working with world-class research facilities and instruments; the largest clean rooms in the Nordic countries are located in the Micro- and nanotechnology centre Micronova.

Assistant (Tenure Track) Professor position in Semiconductor Sensors

Your role and expertise

We encourage talented individuals who hold a doctorate in electrical engineering or a closely related field and who have demonstrated outstanding research in semiconductor device fabrication and related characterization to apply for the position.

Finnish semiconductor industry is growing rapidly and there is a critical lack of experts in this area. Your role is to raise the attractiveness of the field, educate future experts to meet the emerging needs, collaborate with current deep-tech industry and create new innovations for the future. To be successful, you need to have expertise, passion and vision in developing semiconductor devices such as radiant, thermal, chemical or mechanical sensors. Furthermore, prior experience in  semiconductor industry or collaboration with industry are considered a merit.

The successful candidate is expected to lead an outstanding independent research program that complements the existing research efforts at the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering. Preference will be given to candidates who have potential synergies with local research groups and can utilize existing facilities. The possibility to contribute to bachelor level education is considered a merit.

Your experience 

Throughout their career, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow advances in their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field. 

We seek applicants who have 

  • a doctorate in a field closely related to this position;
  • potential to carry out research and attract research funding at the highest level;
  • potential to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment;
  • potential to take responsibility for education and researcher training in sensor technology;
  • ability to be an effective teacher in the undergraduate and graduate degree programmes of the School of Electrical Engineering.
  • a fluent command of both written and spoken English
