This Centre of Excellence is a joint venture of the University of Helsinki and the University of Turku and has been operating since the beginning of 2022. The appointee’s duties will include project management and the provision of support related to practical arrangements for international fieldwork done within the Centre of Excellence.

About the position

If appointed, your duties will encompass a broad range of administrative, communication and reporting tasks associated with the Centre of Excellence, such as planning international fieldwork, organising events, training and meetings, promoting collaboration between various parties, and communicating between collaboration partners. A significant part of the duties will involve the management of samples collected in fieldwork. This includes arranging the transport and storage of samples as well as obtaining related permits and licences. Your duties will also include assistance in financial and HR matters. Depending on your expertise and interests, your role may also include coordination more closely related to the research conducted at the Centre.

Your background

You are capable of taking initiative and enjoy working independently. Due to the handling of samples, you will preferably have suitable laboratory training (biosciences in the broad sense) or solid experience in similar duties. Experience in (research) administration will be considered a significant advantage. You have good interaction and communication skills and possibly experience in organising events. You are capable of working in a dynamic international environment and have fluent skills in English. Other language skills, particularly French, will be considered an asset. You have at least passable skills in Finnish.

Why work for us?

We offer you a diverse and challenging position supporting top-level research in an international work community. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills as part of the University’s high-quality Research Services. You will be supported by skilled colleagues and the University work community. Your wellbeing at work is our priority, and we will help you thrive by providing, for example, remote work opportunities, flexible working hours, inexpensive and diverse sports services and extensive occupational health services.

The appointment will be made on a permanent basis. The starting date is negotiable, but we hope that the appointee can take up the position no later than spring 2022. The salary for the position will depend on the appointee’s expertise and experience, typically being in the range of €3,000 to €3,200 per month.
