Postdoctoral Researchers in Environmental and resource economics

The University of Helsinki is inviting applications for two postdoctoral researcher positions in environmental and resource economics. Postdoctoral positions for 2-3 years are available in the Department of Economics and Management.

The positions are a part of an ERC Starting Grant for the project “Green Tax Reform for a Just Climate Transition”, led by associate professor Lassi Ahlvik . The project analyses the effects of climate policy on inequality, investigates people’s notions of fairness and strives to understand how harmful effects can be mitigated through taxation. The project combines economic theory and empirical work, which relies on the Finnish registers of individuals and businesses.  

Environment

The positions are based at the Department of Economics and Management, which belongs to the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry and it is located in Viikki campus, ten kilometres from the Helsinki city centre.

The appointees will work as a part of Helsinki Graduate School of Economics  (HGSE) research community, which consists of researchers from Aalto University, University of Helsinki and Hanken School of Economics. Environmental economics  is one of the research areas in the HGSE, and the group organizes PhD-level teaching, biannual workshops and a seminar series.

Requirements

We look for candidates in environmental and resource economics or a related field who:

  • Work on applied empirical economics or economic theory, particularly information economics and mechanism design
  • Have high motivation for academic research
  • Have a doctoral degree that has been granted before the beginning of employment.
  • Have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills necessary for the position

Research questions can be adjusted according to applicants’ interests and skills.

The salary of the postdoctoral researcher will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. A six-month trial period will be applied.
