We are now looking for 

Postdoctoral Researcher for a four year fixed-term position in the Faculty of Education.

Position will be located in Teachers, Teaching and Educational Communities unit (TTEC) https://www.oulu.fi/en/university/faculties-and-units/faculty-education/teachers-teaching-and-educational-communities .  In the unit’s multi-disciplinary research, education is considered a relational phenomenon, and thereby TTEC studies multiple relations in formal and informal educational communities. Research in the unit addresses the identity and pedagogy of teachers and the work of educators, inclusion and diversity, multi-species relations, emotions, and values. Unit´s research includes teacher education, early childhood education, higher education, child studies, music education, environmental education, and ethics and politics in education from a variety of quantitative, qualitative, especially narrative research and postqualitative research paradigms 

Job description 

You will carry out a postdoctoral research project in collaboration with one of the research groups of the research unit. The project design and implementation are discussed with and supervised by the Principal Investigator and co-PIs. The tasks will include acquiring external research funding, student supervision, teaching, and duties in the collective activities of the university community. 

If you are not proficient in Finnish, you are expected to acquire moderate proficiency within two years after the selection, as this is essential for the professor’s duties as well as for integration into the workplace and Finnish society. 

Qualification requirements 

The successful candidate must have: 

  • Doctoral degree in relevant field received no more than 5 years ago (excluding possible parental leaves)
  • Proven track record in academic research 
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English 

The following merits will be considered as merit for the applicant: 

  • Track record in acquiring external research funding 
  • Experience in university teaching and other pedagogical merits 
  • Supervision of theses 
  • Merits in international activities 
  • Activities in the academia and the societal stature of these activities 

The assessment of the applicants will be implemented using the qualification requirements as selection criteria. Top candidates will be invited to an on-site or remote interview.

Salary 

The salary of the selected postdoctoral researcher will be in accordance with the Finnish universities salary system for teaching and research personnel: level 5-6. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3300-3800€ per month (before taxes).

1) A motivation letter (max. 2 pages) summarizing the applicant’s professional experience and expertise and describing why applicant is interested in this position. Information on how the applicant’s previous research and current plans relate to one or several research areas of the Research Unit.

4) A research plan (max. 3 pages) 

5) Certificates: Scanned copy of the original doctoral degree certificate and transcript of records, if necessary, officially translated to Finnish or English.

Further information 

The position is fixed term for 4 years starting from 1.10.2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
