The Intelligent Materials Chemistry Group is recruiting one postdoctoral researcher or project researcher for a fixed-term position in the Soda-Lights project funded by the Finnish Natural Resources Research Foundation. The fixed-term position starts in May-June 2024 (upon mutual agreement) and ends 31st December 2025.
Job description
The postdoctoral researcher /project researcher will be working in the Intelligent Materials Chemistry Group at the Department of Chemistry in the University of Turku. The Intelligent Materials Chemistry Group, IMC, focuses on the research and development of materials that have the ability to respond to their surroundings by a drastic change in their behaviour or properties.
The postdoctoral researcher will be engaged in a project that investigates the use of Finnish minerals in the development of new materials for lighting. In addition to research work, the work includes supervision of bachelor and master thesis lab work as well as supervision of PhD students.
Who we are looking for
The candidate
• must have high motivation to do research.
• must hold an MSc, a PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry, minrealogy or corresponding field, or will graduate soon
• must have previous experience in the synthesis and characterization of photochromic and luminescent sodalites or if those are not available, must have experience on solid state chemistry and luminescent materials related with solid state chemistry, or experience on luminescent minerals.
• have the ability to conduct independent scientific work and good English skills.
If the candidate is close to graduation (FT), an employment contract is initially made under the title of a Project Researcher. In that case, the applicant must have graduated with a master's degree.

Salary and trial period
Salary will be determined in a contract. Salary will be determined through University of Turku system for research and teaching personnel and for a postdoctoral researcher will be in levels 4-6 and additional 6 -50% based personal performance will added to task-specific salary. The salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience and basis on the University salary system and will in the beginning of the employment be approximately 3 400 –3 750 €/month. For a project researcher it will be in levels 2-4 and additional 6 -50% based personal performance will added to task-specific salary. The salary will in the beginning of the employment be approximately 2 400 –2 800 €/month.
A six months trial period applies to the position.
