Offer Description

The Department of Physics (Faculty of Mathematics and Science) is looking to fill a postdoctoral researcher position starting on 1 May 2024, or as mutually agreed, for a fixed term of two years.

The postdoctoral researcher will work in the Nuclear Spectroscopy Group in the Accelerator Laboratory. Approximately one third of the beam time provided by the Accelerator Laboratory is used by this group. The majority of the experiments carried out by the group are focused on the properties of exotic proton-rich nuclei.

The postdoctoral researcher will join the project “Decay spectroscopy on the proton dripline - Decay station of MARA LEB” funded by the Research Council of Finland. MARA (Mass Analyzing Recoil Apparatus) is a vacuum mode recoil separator. A Low-Energy Branch (LEB) is presently under construction on the focal plane of MARA. These two together will form the MARA-LEB, the improved selectivity of which will allow new research opportunities along the proton dripline. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to participate in the assembly work of MARA-LEB with special focus on the design and construction of the decay spectroscopy station to be located at the focal plane of MARA-LEB. The postdoctoral researcher will also participate in the daily tasks of the research groups, such as preparation and running of experiments. Additionally, the postdoctoral researcher has the possibility to develop and pursue their own research ideas by employing the already existing infrastructure of the Accelerator Laboratory.

Qualifications

The candidates should have, or be about to receive, a PhD in experimental nuclear physics. Experience in decay spectroscopy, for example, in alpha-, gamma-, proton-, or internal conversion electron spectroscopy are considered beneficial.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines . The doctoral degree required for the position must have been completed before starting the position.
