Aalto University is a community of bold thinkers where science and art meet technology and business. Aalto has six schools with nearly 11 000 students and a staff of more than 4000, of which 400 are professors. Our main campus is located in Espoo, Finland.
The Academy of Finland Center of Excellence in Life Inspired Hybrid Materials (LIBER) at Aalto University is looking for
Postdoctoral researcher in computational active matter
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the area of computational active matter, more specifically driven self-organization and instabilities of colloidal and nanoparticle systems in external fields and/or active assembly in biomacromolecular materials. The post-doctoral project is in the Academy of Finland Center of Excellence in Life Inspired Hybrid Materials (LIBER) at Aalto University, Finland. The computational postdoc will join the Soft Materials Modelling group.
Your role
Your research will focus on computational active matter, especially fundamental aspects of driven soft materials. As postdoc, you are part of a research team with a common research direction and work as part of the team sharing knowledge and learning. You are already a trained researcher in some specific area of active materials modelling and able to do research relatively independently in your own area of expertise but looking to expand skills. Role in team and team responsibilities depend on your level of experience: participation in instruction and training of doctoral and undergraduate students is expected and provides possibility of expanding research.
Your experience and ambitions
LIBER operates across physics, chemistry, and biosciences in Aalto University – the sought person has the ability and willingness to drive high-profile, interdisciplinary research in a joint effort between physics, chemical sciences, and biomolecular materials.
A study background and doctorate degree in computational soft materials physics, materials science, or related field, as well as a good publication history and a strong understanding of soft matter, especially driven assembly and instabilities in assembly response are required. Specific expertise can focus e.g. on colloidal, biomacromolecular, polymer or nanoparticle assembly and materials. Ability to model at multiple length scales and to connect modelling work with experimental data is needed. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in particle-based soft materials simulations, statistical mechanics-based modelling, dissemination of scientific results, and be well versed in data handling. Know-how of linux/unix based high performance computing environments (HPC computing) is required. The candidate must have good oral and written com-mand of English.
What we offer?
The expected starting salary for a postdoctoral researcher who has recently received their PhD is approximately 3500 €/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. The contract includes occupational health care services and Finland has a comprehensive social security system.
Ready to apply?
If you want to join our community, please submit your application through our recruitment system. If you are Aalto employee or visitor, please apply via our internal Workday system (Career).
Please include the following documents in English.
A letter of motivation
A complete curriculum vitae describing education and employment history, as well as, list of scientific publications
Contact details of at least 2 possible reference letter writers
The call is open until May 30, 2022 but we may start reviewing and interviewing candidates immediately.
